School Counseling

Welcome to the Dare School Counseling page!
Dare Elementary's School Counseling program is dedicated to helping students reach their personal best. Mrs. Noyes works with students in groups and individually to help them develop academic skills, social and personal skills, and begin to explore future and career options. She also works with parents and other school staff to help create the best educational environment for students. Please reach out for any questions or requests for specific services.
Our comprehensive School Counseling program is focused on addressing student needs with the following services:
Classroom Counseling Lessons – Throughout the school year, we will be teaching classroom lessons to students in grades K-5. Students will learn about many important topics including:
-September: Meet the Counselor/Zones of Regulation
-October: Bullying Prevention
-November/December: Communication Skills
-January: Kindness
-February: Family Life Education for grades K-3/Goal Setting for grades 4-5.
-March: Career Exploration
-April: Diversity
-May/June: Family Life Education for grades 4-5.
Group Counseling – Students may participate in small group counseling upon parent or teacher request.
Group counseling topics may include:
- Military deployment
- Friendship and social skills
- Study skills
- Coping skills
- Self-esteem
- Emotional regulation
Individual Counseling – Students may speak with the counselor individually through parent referral, teacher referral, or self-referral. A student may talk with a school counselor about:
- Academic concerns
- Family changes or concerns
- Peer relationships and friends
- Decision-making
- Emotional regulation
- Coping skills
Family Life Education - Family Life will be taught in the Spring and aligned with the VA Department of Education Standards of Learning.
Gifted Program Contact – Mrs. Noyes serves as the Gifted Education contact. Please contact her with questions about the YCSD Extend Program.
Community Referrals – If you are in need of assistance, the school counselor can help by locating community resources. School counselors may also provide referrals for long-term counseling services.
